A hiker was airlifted to safety from Mount Benson Saturday afternoon after being injured on the popular hiking trail near Nanaimo.
Norht Shore Rescue says its helicopter team was called to assist Nanaimo Search and Rescue as part of a mutual aid response.
By the time the North Shore crew arrived, local rescuers had already reached the injured hiker, provided medical care and prepared them for transport.
Rescue technicians were then lowered from a helicopter to the scene to secure the hiker on an aerial rescue platform, which functions as a flying stretcher.
The patient was hoisted into the helicopter and flown to a temporary landing zone where they were transferred to BC Emergency Health Services paramedics for further care.
