As hidden talents go, being an Ultimate Frisbee champion has to go down as one of the more obscure skills for a professional footballer.
But that’s exactly what newly appointed Coventry City captain Matt Grimes was in his formative teenage years. As well as becoming a junior national champion in the competitive version of frisbee for three years running, he also represented Great Britain who made the final but ended up as runners up in the team game in Germany.
He excelled at the game which involves five or seven players scoring points by passing the frisbee around and someone catching it in an end zone, similar to how American footballers score a touchdown.
Grimes only gave it up when he signed a scholarship deal at Exeter City, setting off on his footballing career path.
