There were flashes of the trademark charisma, not least when Usain Bolt bluntly assessed why his times remain unrivalled, but also no mistaking Superman’s return to normality.

Amazingly, the Tokyo World Championship is the first athletics event that Bolt has attended since retiring in 2017 and, while rapturously received by the Japanese fans, stepping back into the spotlight is clearly far removed from his day-to-day life back home in Jamaica.
