A swarming Northgate defense set the tone Friday night as the Vikings toppled Newnan 35-21 at Drake Stadium for their first win over the Cougars in program history.
It was the Cougars who struck first when running back Kameron Davis found the end zone on a short touchdown run on the opening drive.
After a three-and-out from the Vikings and a turnover on downs for the Cougars, the Vikings tied the game with a Woody Schettini rushing touchdown late in the first quarter.
The Vikings defense picked off Newnan quarterback Brodie Campbell and immediately took the lead with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Vikings quarterback Ledger Clements to receiver Connor Chubb.
At the end of the first quarter, Newnan returned the kickoff to Northgate’s 13-yard line. The return led to Newnan tying the game
