A candlelight vigil was held Saturday evening on the Newnan court square to honor the life of Charlie Kirk, drawing a crowd that gathered in quiet reflection and solidarity.

Kirk, 31, was a conservative political activist, author and media personality who co-founded the national nonprofit Turning Point USA. He was fatally shot Sept. 10 while speaking during a “American Comeback Tour” event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Authorities said the gunman opened fire from a rooftop roughly 140 yards away. A 22-year-old suspect was arrested two days later and charged in connection with the killing.

The Newnan vigil was organized by 24-year-old Ciera Conselyea, who said the idea came to her suddenly and powerfully.
