Pausa in Italian translates to “break” or “to pause.” For shopkeepers in Italy, the word often refers to when they close their shops in the middle of the day for a long lunch. For Laura Capparelli, however, the word means much more than that.
Pausa, Capparelli’s new coffee shop and cocktail lounge, will host a soft opening at 246 East Water St. on Saturday, Sept. 20, with a grand opening planned for the first week of October. The shop functions as a dual drink spot: Coffee during the day, Monday through Sunday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m., a cocktail lounge.
“It is a lounge, so heavy focus on the cocktails we’ve already curated,” Capparelli said. “That’s not to say that we can’t make a Manhattan, but it’s definitely not a place where you’ll just grab
