OTTAWA — A man has been charged following alleged threats made against St. Mark High School in Ottawa. The threats were reportedly in response to a social media post by a staff member regarding the death of Charlie Kirk, a right-wing activist from the United States.
On Sunday morning, the principal of St. Mark High School informed parents about the threat in a message. The Ottawa Catholic School Board is currently reviewing social media posts linked to Kirk, who was shot and killed on a college campus in Utah last week.
Police arrested a 23-year-old man without incident on Sunday morning. Officers executed a search warrant in an east-end neighborhood of Ottawa, approximately a half-hour drive from the school.
Later that evening, a follow-up letter was sent to families of St. Mark students. It stated that police believe there is no ongoing risk to students or staff. However, authorities will maintain an increased police presence around the school as the investigation continues.
