HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - A former Hazard Middle School teacher was indicted and arrested on charges of sexual abuse and tampering with physical evidence.

According to the indictment, Monty C. Salyer II acted alone or in concert with others to commit the offense of first-degree sexual abuse by subjecting a minor younger than 18 to sexual contact with the defendant being a person in a position of authority or position of special trust.

The indictment also said Salyer committed the offense of tampering with physical evidence by destroying, mutilating, removing, concealing or altering physical evidence, by deleting social media apps which would have been used as evidence in the investigation.

The indictment says the incident happened sometime between Aug. 2 and Aug. 19.
