Several small earthquakes shook Western North Carolina in the past week.

Damaging earthquakes in the Tar Heel State are not common. Both of the recent earthquakes, which occurred Sept. 10 and Sept. 11, were around 2.0 magnitude, a strength which the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality describes as being "felt by very few people."
