LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has found that a majority of the state is in high fire condition - meaning dry vegetation is highly flammable.

The department is warning people to take extra precautions to prevent wildfires.

John Felzke is part-owner of Felzke Farms in Dewitt. He and his family have been serving the community since 1979. And says they are used to Michigan’s extreme weather temperatures.

“Michigan has the four seasons, and we see it here year in and year out, and you just have to be able to adapt,” said Felzke.

He says dry temperatures have always been something he pays close attention to.

“1988 was a super dry spring and dry summer. We finally started getting rain in July, and by Fall, the fields were just extremely wet and muddy,”
