HILLSDALE, Mich. (WTVG) - Leaders with Hillsdale College are remembering conservative activist, Charlie Kirk , of whom their president and school community came to know both professionally and as a friend.

“However great of a person he was in public, he was an even greater person in private,” said Kyle Murnen, the College’s Chief of Staff.

Murnen said this loss is devastating.

“To lose him is one of the most painful things we’ve had to deal with in quite some time,” Murnen said.

Kirk reached out to the university’s president, Dr. Larry Arnn, when he was a teenager. Murnen said Kirk wanted to have conversations and learn from the school’s faculty.

Kirk’s relationship with the college grew from there.

“He was constantly learning and looking for places to learn,” Murnen said.
