A petition has been launched to honour the life of former champion boxer Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton with a statue.

An ever-increasing number of people are pledging their support for the idea by signing the call.

Tributes from across the globe have been flooding in for the star after his tragic death at the age of just 46. Hatton was found dead at his home in Hyde , Tameside , on Sunday morning.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The Stockport-born former world welterweight champion was a hero to many, for his work both inside the ring and out of it.
