INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - An Independence man faces multiple felony charges after he was allegedly caught in the act of sexually assaulting a child.
Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Sunday, Sept. 14, indicate that Joseph M. Masterson, 42, of Independence, has been charged with child sex crimes.
A probable cause statement filed by the Independence Police Department revealed that just before 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, investigators were called to an area home with reports of a rape.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a witness who reported she had returned from work to find Masterson sexually assaulting a child who was under the age of 12 in her bedroom.
