LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Metro councilmember Kevin Bratcher, R-22, is the primary sponsor of a resolution urging Governor Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice to expedite the re-opening of the Juvenile Detention Center .
Bratcher sees this as a solution to a teen violence issue.
"Louisville has a problem and nobody seems to be wanting to take is serious and that is juvenile crime," Bratcher said. “We need a detention center here in Louisville and we need it yesterday.”
The facility closed in 2019 and is scheduled to reopen spring 2027.
According to the Kentucky Justice & Public Safety Cabinet, once completed, the facility will have 64 beds and will house 'high level male offenders'.
