NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The federal grand jury returned a 12-count indictment against a woman in connection with the public corruption scheme in February.

The United States Department of Justice said Rose Emily Lorenzo, 64, of North Carolina, was initially charged with conspiracy to commit bribery with respect to programs receiving federal funds, honest services wire fraud, theft with respect to programs receiving federal funds, bribery with respect to programs receiving federal funds, honest services wire fraud and money laundering in February 2021.

The additional charges allege that Lorenzo made a false statement to the FBI by telling them she was not aware that funds from two non-profit organizations were being transferred to a North Charleston City councilmember. The charges
