GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A 60-year-old man was left in a pool of blood inside his apartment after he was bludgeoned to death by his nephew, prosecutors argued.

A defense attorney for the nephew told jurors that the lack of evidence against his client is grounds for acquittal.

Sharieff Massey, 48, is on trial this week in Kent County Circuit Court for second-degree murder in the death of his uncle, 60-year-old Alevandro Williams .

The killing happened on April 7, 2023, at Williams’ apartment on Oak Park Drive SE.

When Grand Rapids police arrived at the scene, officers found a pool of blood on the living room carpet and a trail of blood leading to the bedroom, as if someone had been dragged.

There were two pools of blood on the bed and a blood spatter pattern on a wall.
