FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A cat named Spencer was reunited with his family more than two years after going missing, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter said Monday.

Spencer disappeared in June 2023. His family filed a lost report with the shelter and looked for him everywhere. The shelter said his family even hired search dogs to look for him, but they weren't able to find him.

But then last week, Spencer arrived at the shelter. Animal services were able to scan his microchip and match him with the lost report filed for him. They saw that the information was a match and reached out to his family.

When Spencer's family got to the shelter, both he and his family immediately recognized each other, the shelter said. According to them, his dad shouted, "That’s him! That’s our Spencer," as soon as
