The Tobacco Education and Prevention Coalition for Porter County (TEPC), affiliated with Valparaiso University, recently received two grants totaling $324,000, the university announced on Monday.

One is a two-year $310,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Health's Tobacco Prevention and Cessation, which has been awarded to Valpo for the past 25 years. Funding for the grant comes from the $195 billion 1998 Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.

The second is a $14,000 grant from the HUB Coalition of Porter County.

Through its partnership with TEPC, Valpo students have been involved in its efforts through designing campaign materials, teaching tobacco prevention at local K-12 schools and interning with the coalition, according to the university.
