Campbell River’s FireSmart program has received its final installment of funding from the Union of BC Municipalities’ (UBCM’s) FireSmart Community Funding and Supports grant program.
In 2023, the City of Campbell River, along with the We Wai Kai Nation and Wei Wai Kum First Nation, applied for funding from UBCM’s. The city was approved for over $158,000 in funding and received the final installment this year.
Over the last two years, the funding has been spent on FireSmart activities, public safety programs and community events. The program also worked with local First Nations on supporting wildfire resiliency efforts.
