Taxpayers will have the opportunity on Nov. 4 to vote on a $265 million bond meant to help pay for an overhaul of Des Moines Public Schools.

In about 2½ months, Yes for Des Moines Schools volunteers has gathered 7,434 signatures to advance the $265 million, 20-year bond proposal to the Des Moines School Board for final approval, committee member Natalie Merrill, announced during a Monday, Sept. 15, press conference.

The funds would be used to cover construction costs for the district’s 5-year Reimagining Education, Reinvigorating Schools initiative that would repurpose some schools and close several buildings.
