ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

The Hispanic Heritage Kick-Off has already taken place in Old Town Albuquerque but the festivities are just beginning.

Hispanic Heritage Month official begins on Monday, Sept. 15. The monthlong celebration got its origin under President Lyndon Johnson, who helped start Hispanic Heritage Week in 1868.

This led to President Ronald Reagan expanding to celebration to a 30-day period in 1988. The cultural celebration will conclude on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
