WASHINGTON, D.C. (FOX Carolina) - A congressman announced on Monday that a western North Carolina town will receive federal funding to replace a bridge that was destroyed during Hurricane Helene.

Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) said that the Town of Lake Lure will receive $2,565,168.30 in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to replace Flowering Bridge

Officials said the funding will support the full replacement of the historic 3-span arch pedestrian bridge between Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. The project includes demolition, excavation and the installation of a new structure built to standard.

The total cost of the project is $2,850,187.00, with 90% of the cost covered by federal funds, according to officials.
