NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Governor Kathy Hochul has thrown her support behind Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of New York City, despite significant political differences with the city's Democratic nominee.

Hochul, who is seeking reelection herself in 2026, made the endorsement in an op-ed late Sunday. But in her first comments about the endorsement hours later, Hochul, a moderate Democrat, has made it clear that she disagrees with Mamdani on many issues.

"I do not agree with many of his views," Hochul said, adding that despite disagreements, she likes Mamdani's "can-do attitude" and optimism. She said the two both believe "the city's best days still lie ahead." She also pointed to their mutual support for his affordability agenda, especially universal childcare.
