MONTEZUMA CREEK, UT (AZFamily) — A rare tornado touched down in the Navajo Nation on Saturday afternoon in southeastern Utah near Montezuma Creek.
On X, Navajo Nation president Buu Nygren said that three homes were demolished, but no injuries have been reported. He also said that the local chapter house is coordinating hotel stays for displaced families.
Meteorologist Pete Mangione says it is quite unusual for tornadoes of this strength to occur in this part of the country.
Crews are in the field working to restore damaged power lines.
