NEW ORLEANS — The mother of 12-year-old , who was killed in an alligator attack, and the person arrested for his death was denied a $5,000 bond per count and is now held without bail.

State prosecutors said Hilda Vasquez was a danger to her surviving children. The judge granted a transfer from Plaquemines Parish to the Orleans Parish jail so she has better access to counsel.

Up until now, gaps in the day's recounting have raised more questions than answers. Before now, we knew that the child, who's autistic, went missing sometime around 5 a.m. Thursday, August 14. Police had told us he was seen on neighborhood surveillance video a few times between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. We knew his mom, Hilda Vasquez, called 911 around 10 a.m. to report her son missing.
