ST. LOUIS - This morning in downtown St. Louis, officials recognized Hispanic Heritage Month.
A flag, in honor of the month, was raised over St. Louis City Hall. St. Louis artist Jose Garza designed the flag back in 2023.
With its vibrant colors, the flag symbolizes courage, perseverance, sacrifice, and prosperity.
“Two years ago, St. Louis became the first city in the country to raise this flag,” said Elisa Bender. “From that moment, the movement began. Now, cities across the nation are adopting (the flag) as their own. What started here has become a national symbol of Hispanic pride and community.”
Today’s flag-raising comes days before the Greater St. Louis Hispanic Festival at Soulard Park, which is set to begin this weekend.
Hispanic Heritage Month is from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
