Notre Dame redshirt freshman safety Tae Johnson had the best game of his career Saturday against Texas A&M, collecting six tackles, a pass breakup and returning a blocked punt 20 yards for a touchdown in the game’s opening minutes.

The Fort Wayne native was on the field for the most important snaps of the game after starting safety Adon Shuler was ejected for targeting early in the fourth quarter. Johnson forced an incomplete pass with perfect coverage on the Aggies’ third-and-goal play right before A&M scored the winning touchdown on fourth down in the final seconds.

The former North Side star will have expanded responsibilities this week against Purdue with Shuler suspended for the first half because of the targeting penalty.
