Speaker of the House Dustin Burrows, R – Lubbock, and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, R – Senate, created select committees to study the temperature and situation on campus following the assassination of conservative activist and podcaster Charlie Kirk.
Kirk was shot and killed in front of a large audience at Utah Valley University after launching one of his open debate-style tours to recruit conservative college students. Since then, some online commentators mocked his death.
“The public celebration of his murder by some in higher education is appalling and reveals a deeper system problem worth examining,” said Speaker Burrows.
Seven senators and eight House members will study university climate in the months ahead.
“We may have to look at outdoor activities as opposed to indoor activities.
