BIG RAPIDS — The Salvation Army in Big Rapids has launched a youth archery program designed to help young people build focus, discipline and self-confidence.

The program, which started Sept. 15, is part of the organization’s broader effort to support youth through activities that encourage social connections and keep them active.

“Kids spend a lot of time just sitting in isolation,” an organizer said. “This gives them an opportunity to come and be amongst their peers. Also meet new friends. They just have an opportunity to be among people, be among their peers and help them understand that there’s a sense of community involved.”

The free program is open to youth ages 6 to 16. More information is available at 9and10news.com .
