CARLTON COUNTY, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Some checks have been reported stolen directly from mailboxes in Carlton County.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s office has determined someone stole multiple personal checks from mailboxes in Silverbrook Township near Wrenshall.

14 people’s personal checks were stolen in the mail, all from the Carlton, Wrenshall, Esko, and Cloquet areas.

During the investigation, local law enforcement were able to identify and arrest 25-year-old Chase James Christian as the person responsible for the mail theft after he had attempted to cash one of the checks at a bank in Cloquet.

He has been charged with check forgery, possession of a stolen check, and mail theft.
