DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Students at Lowell Elementary were quickly brought inside Monday morning after a black bear wandered onto school grounds.
The school, located on Rice Lake Road, entered what the district calls a secure as staff moved children indoors for safety.
“I was kind of like ‘oh my god, a bear — that’s kind of terrifying,’” said parent Kylee Johnson.
Another parent, Clair Bidmead, said she was initially startled when she received the alert.
“When I first saw it, it didn’t say the bear, it just said secure was happening. I was like, ‘oh my gosh,’” Bidmead said. “But when I saw that it was a bear, I was like, oh, that’s much better. It’s a good reason to have a secure, and it was nice that they notified us in time.”
