AUSTIN, Texas — A Central Austin dessert shop known for its Hong Kong-style mango treats was burglarized early Sunday morning, leaving the owners with thousands of dollars in damage.
Hui Lau Shan, located next to the Crestview train station, was broken into around 5:32 a.m., according to a police report. Surveillance video shows a man in a wheelchair, dressed in all black, using a hammer to break through the glass of the shop's front door.
Jie Huang, a co-founder of the business, said the man went straight for the cash register and carried it out of the store.
“Luckily, no one was hurt, and luckily, we didn’t have any cash in the cash register because we’re credit card only. So the only damage is the door,” Huang said.
