CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Starting from humble beginnings, the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign now serves 27 million people during the holiday season.
“As a local, San Francisco fundraiser, with a single crab pot in 1891, the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign has grown into one of the most recognizable, one of the most important charitable events in the United States," said Developmental Director Sharie Wilkins.
