RECTOR, Ark. (KAIT) - Scammers took thousands of dollars from a Clay County man after telling him that a package delivered to his door was a bomb.
A check in the mail turned into a huge loss for the Rector man in what police believe is part of an elaborate scam effort.
“If you think it can’t happen to you, it can, and it does, every single day,” said Rector Police Chief Kelly Baker.
It all started when a man in Rector, who wanted to remain anonymous, received a check in the mail for $5,000.
The check was from a woman in New Jersey.
The check was flagged when the man tried to deposit the check in the bank, which notified the Rector Police Department.
Baker said they got in contact with the woman and found out she sent the check so she could receive prize money, which ended up being a
