ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A two-year-old girl from Uganda has made the trip to St. Louis in order to receive a life-saving operation. It’s with the help of a local non-profit.
Lucy has multiple heart defects, including a hole in two of her heart chambers, that are impacting her ability to grow up healthy.
Dr. Kent Killian, a pediatrician and volunteer with Christ Community International, met Lucy and her mom more than a year ago when volunteering for CCI in Uganda.
Dr. Killian said the hope was for her to get the surgery in Uganda, but due to the complicated nature, it wasn’t available. So, when he returned to St. Louis, he couldn’t let it go and reached out to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
“We worked out, if I could get her here, they would be happy to do the
