EUGENE, Ore. – The effects of state budget cuts are already being seen in the local community, with the Springfield-Eugene Tenant Association (SETA) having to lay off employees and reduce programs that help people avoid evictions.

“We had asked for $848,000 for continuing services over a two-year period,” Timothy Morris, SETA Executive Director, said. “We are receiving about $200,000. So we've been slashed by three-quarters of the budget that we asked for.”

Receiving a budget just about 25% of what they had asked for has forced SETA to cut one of its programs.

“We've stopped running one of our education programs,” Morris said.

Even though only one program was completely cut, other areas of the housing organization have been affected as well.
