Kauai firefighters rescued a 72-year-old visitor with a head injury from the Kalalau Trail over the weekend.

The Kauai Fire Department received an emergency call for an injured hiker shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday. According to a preliminary report, the 72-year-old was visiting from Switzerland, and was at Hanakapiai Beach with an apparent head injury.

Upon arrival, first responders administered first aid to control bleeding. KFD’s Air 1 helicopter picked the visitor up from the Hanakapiai Stream landing zone, and transported them to Princeville Airport.

Care was then transferred to American Medical Response. The status of the visitor remains unknown.

The scene was cleared shortly before 1:20 p.m.
