The Atlantic hurricane season usually gets the most active in late August through late September, but it’s been unusually quiet in recent weeks.

However, forecasters say the season is expected to become more active in the next two weeks. And one area of concern — a tropical wave between the Windward Islands and the coast of western Africa — has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical depression or named tropical storm by the end of this week, according to the National Hurricane Center .

Forecasters from AccuWeather agree, saying warm water atmospheric conditions are favorable for the wave to become a named storm.

“According to historical data, the frequency of storms in the Atlantic basin is highest on average on Sept. 10,” AccuWeather noted.
