NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A community is mourning after a 15-year-old was killed in a motorcycle crash this weekend.

Students at Brentwood High School felt a noticeable absence in class on Monday after learning that their classmate Chethan Babu died in an accident.

“It felt eerie. There were a lot of tears. There was a lot of sadness,” said Avery Burdette, a student at Brentwood High School.

Police say on Saturday afternoon, the 15-year-old was riding an electric motorcycle on Old Hickory Boulevard near High Lea Road.

Witnesses say Babu was going about 40 to 50 miles per hour when he lost control. He was thrown from his bike, hitting a fire hydrant.

“I saw lots of police vehicles,” said Greg Thompson, who witnessed the aftermath of the crash.
