BLOOMFIELD HILLS – It may be field hockey’s first fall as a sport sanctioned by MHSAA, but Cranbrook-Kingswood and Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett are no strangers to one another.
University Liggett, the reigning Catholic League’s Bishop Division champions, converted their chances at a good clip in the circle to beat the host Cranes 5-1 on Monday evening.
The stakes may be raised now that MHSAA will hand out a state championship, but the Cranes and Knights did battle twice last season and have been posturing to be atop a balanced Catholic League — a different team has won the Bishop title the past four years — for longer than that.
