South Australia Police said it is investigating a staff member's social media posts after they allegedly made comments celebrating the assassination of right-wing podcaster and activist Charlie Kirk.

A spokesperson for SA Police confirmed it has been notified of the social media posts.

"SAPOL are aware of the social media posts, and they are now subject to an investigation under the Police Complaints Disciplinary Act," the spokesperson said.

9News understands the employee allegedly described Kirk's assassination at Utah Valley University last week as "wonderful".

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot at a campus event at Utah Valley University on September 11.

Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested in relation to Kirk's assassination.

He is expected to be formally charged with murder.
