Fifty years after achieving independence from Australia, our nearest neighbour is looking towards a revolution.
Papua New Guinea's national cattle herd currently sits at around 40,000 head, but the government is driving a push to see that total return to the 150,000 head the country had in 1975.
Numbers have dwindled in the half-century since self-determination as cattle were slaughtered, breeding programs abandoned and properties left to go to seed.
"A lot of infrastructure had collapsed and the Livestock Development Corporation (LDC) has now had a remit to introduce cattle in small numbers," Australian Livestock Exporters' Council chairman David Galvin said.
