Over 2,000 ballots have been cast in Cherokee County during the first two days of the early voting period for the Sept. 23 runoff to decide two contested races.
The runoff election is for the Georgia Senate District 21 race between Democrat Debra Shigley and Republican Jason Dickerson, as well as the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners District 1 race between Republican Will Cagle and Democrat Charles Ravenscraft.
Early voting in Cherokee started on Saturday.
Cherokee County Elections Director Anne Dover told the Tribune that, as of 1 p.m. Monday, 2,175 people had cast a ballot.
She said she was happy with the turnout for Saturday, when 1,431 ballots were cast in person at the county’s early voting locations.
