SALEM Ore. (KPTV) - Oregon senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley have introduced legislature aimed at preventing workers from being taxed on stipends received while on strike.

Such stipends - usually a few hundred dollars a week - come from union strike funds, and help cover lost wages.

However, the senators say that many workers are surprised when they face unexpected federal taxes on the stipends.

The proposed Tax Cut for Striking Workers Act would exclude these strike fund payments from taxable income, offering relief to workers.
