HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Holyoke has launched a Puerto Rican Cultural District to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month.

The kickoff event, hosted by local organisation Nueva Esperanza, took place at Armour Yard on Race Street. The event featured music, dance, art, and food that celebrated Puerto Rican culture and the community in Holyoke.

"We want to make a space where people can claim as their own, while also revitalising the space," said Stephanie Colon, who is involved in Planning and Economic Development in Holyoke.

Organisers of the Puerto Rican Cultural District launch event emphasised that it is part of a broader effort to stimulate economic and social growth in Holyoke. By creating a vibrant cultural space, they aim to attract more visitors and foster community engagement.
