AUGUSTA, Maine — The Augusta Police Department urged the public to avoid the Mount Vernon Avenue area as firefighters responded to a blaze Monday night.

Police said in a post around 10:30 p.m. that Augusta Fire and Rescue crews were responding to an active structure fire. At that time, police said it appeared all residents had made it out safely.

Officials urged drivers to seek alternate routes to allow emergency responders to work safely and efficiently.

Police said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
