BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - About half of the state of Alabama is experiencing abnormally dry conditions. September and October tend to be the driest months of the year, so while the weather is not surprising, it can still be concerning.

First responders in Talladega County worked early into Monday morning to put out a brush fire which covered more than 100 acres. It could be seen off the intersection of Childersburg Fayetteville Highway and McGowans Ferry Road in Sylacauga.

Lay Lake Volunteer Fire Department posted photos on Facebook showing the immense amount of smoke from the fire.

The Alabama Forestry Commission said it took about four hours to contain the brush fire and they’re still investigating the cause.
