A developer's request to rezone a 311.84 acre mixed-use development on the southeast corner of Germann Road and Val Vista Drive has been approved by the Gilbert Planning Commission.

Commissioners voted Sept. 10 to recommend Town Council approval of the project despite town staff’s objections to the proposal.

Staff expressed concerns that the plans for the land did not conform with the San Tan character area’s vision. They also were concerned about the traffic generated from the project and the safety and livability of some of the homes proposed.

Town senior planner Keith Newman said 75% of the project lies in this character area of Gilbert.
