High Park residents are urging the city to begin work on a redesign of a busy road in their neighbourhood and say the lack of "meaningful safety measures" on the street remains a major concern.

Parkside Drive, a north-south road that borders High Park on the west and residential homes on the east, has a history of crashes. A city report says there were 1,487 crashes on the road between Bloor Street W. and Lake Shore Boulevard W. between August 2014 and August 2024. Five caused serious injuries and two resulted in deaths. In October 2021, a motorist killed an older couple in a five-car crash.

The demand for action comes after an automated speed enforcement camera was cut down on Sept. 7, the seventh time in the past 10 months. The city says the speed camera vendor, Redflex Traffic Systems
