MUNROE FALLS, Ohio – Munroe Falls City Councilman John Impellizzeri has resigned following local and national backlash from a Facebook post he made on a personal account following the shooting death of Republican political activist Charlie Kirk .
Council President Ross Widenor shared Impellizzeri’s resignation letter with cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.
“As requested, I officially resign. It has been an honor working for Munroe Falls,” Impellizzeri, vice president of the council, said in the letter.
The councilman’s resignation follows a since-deleted Facebook post he made that has been widely shared, which said:
“So to all you right-wingers out there I have two things to say to you: 2nd Amendment, and ‘Thoughts and Prayers.‘ The world is a better place now that he’s gone.”
